Healthcare Design Names 2022 Breaking Through Finalists

Healthcare Design is excited to share that four teams were selected to advance to the final round of its 2022 Breaking Through conceptual design competition.

This is the third installment of Breaking Through, a program that encourages healthcare design innovation by asking participants to present concepts that solve challenges anticipated in the future delivery of care. The 2022 program is sponsored by Durasein.

Participants were advised to forget the usual project restrictions tied to budget, schedule, codes, etc., to create solutions that imagine what they’d design for healthcare if the rules didn’t apply.

In total, 31 teams submitted initial ideas for review by the jury of industry experts. From there, 12 semifinalists were selected to move forward to the second round, where ideas were fleshed out in robust, visually rich presentations that covered the challenges their concepts solve and details of that solution.

In July, the jury met to review those semifinalist concepts, choosing four to advance to the final phase. That phase involves the teams further refining their concepts and visuals and presenting them live in a general session at the upcoming Healthcare Design Conference + Expo (Oct. 8-11, San Antonio).

The finalists are:

The Breaking Through finale will be held 2:15-3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10. After 10-minute presentations by each team, the conference attendees will choose the winner in a poll. The winning team will receive a grand prize of $10,000.

Coverage of the semifinalists will appear in the October issue of Healthcare Design, and then coverage of the finalists and winner will be published in the November issue. (Go here to view coverage of the 2020 finalists/winner.)
