As #TheSimonettaLeinShow continues its 5th season in September 2022, the show welcomes the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA). The KGSA was founded in 2002 as a soccer program to get girls off the streets and later evolved into a holistic and free high-school that serves 130 girls every year in Kibera, Kenya. I am honored to have Richard Teka, the director of KGSA, and three KGSA alumni, Asha Jaffar, Beatrice Awino, and Aisha Ali. KGSA’s model cares for the whole girl – academics, extra-curricular programs, nutrition, healthcare, mentorship, and college scholarships! KGSA harnesses the power of the #girleffect to unlock each girl’s potential and provide her the opportunity to shape her own future. KGSA is a feature organization of the Girls Opportunity Alliance at the Obama Foundation, and has been recognized by Under Armour. To date, KGSA has graduated over 370 girls including 70 who have pursued higher education. Simonetta discusses the history of KGSA with Teka, it’s amazing alumni, and much more. Stay tuned!
