Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Son Nicholas Dead At 43 – Weeks After Composer Revealed Gastric Cancer Diagnosis

Nicholas Webber has tragically died at just 43 years old.

Earlier this month, the late artist’s father, Andrew Lloyd Webber, revealed his eldest son had been battling gastric cancer for well over a year, noting in a statement to multiple outlets that his condition had recently taken a turn for the worse:

“I am absolutely devastated to say that my eldest son Nick is critically ill. As my friends and family know, he has been fighting gastric cancer for the last 18 months and Nick is now hospitalized.”

At the time, the award-winning composer revealed that he would not be attending the premiere of his latest Broadway musical, Bad Cinderella, which had recently transferred from London’s West End, due to Nick’s health matters:

“We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner. He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humor, but at the moment my place is with him and the family.”

A few days after that, the EGOT winner updated fans in an Instagram video that Nick had been moved into hospice as he continued to fight his cancer diagnosis — and pneumonia:

“I want to thank you for the outpouring of messages of support for my son, Nick. He’s now been moved into a hospice and he’s battling away. I think he’s over the worst of this first bout of pneumonia that he’s got as a result of his cancer, which is just ghastly. We’re all here and the family here has gathered around, and it was the right place for us all to be I think.”

Now, Andrew has one final update.

Over the weekend, the 75-year-old took to Twitter to share with fans that his eldest son, whom he shares with ex-wife Sarah Hugil, has sadly passed away. He wrote Saturday:

“I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital.  His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft.”

So, so sad.

Nicholas had famously followed in his father’s footsteps, also becoming a Grammy-nominated composer and record producer, more recently scoring Gillies McKinnon’s 2021 directorial feature, The Last Bus.

A source close to Andrew told Page Six Saturday:

“Andrew loved and admired Nick’s talent as a composer and producer. And, most recently, Nick was instrumental in pulling off the production of the London cast recording of Bad Cinderella — during the pandemic.”

Show producer Rick Miramontez added of the father-son dynamic:

“They were close throughout Nick’s life and according to Andrew, Nick kept his signature good humor up to the end and was eager to hear progress reports of Bad Cinderella every time Andrew returned from New York during rehearsals.”

Our hearts weigh heavy for the famous family, and we extend our deepest condolences. Nick, like his father, will be remembered for his musical contributions for generations to come. Rest in peace.
