Oh no. Billy Joel has canceled all his upcoming concerts as he deals with a serious health issue.
On Friday, the musician revealed he was “recently” diagnosed with a brain disorder called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, which occurs when there is excess cerebrospinal fluid in the brain’s ventricles. This can lead to difficulty walking, cognitive impairment, and urinary incontinence, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Oh no…

In a statement about the condition shared by his team on Instagram, they wrote:
“Billy Joel has announced that he will be cancelling all scheduled concerts following a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance.”
Scary! The 76-year-old is now listening to his medical team’s advice and taking a step back from work:
“Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”
Billy also shared a message to his fans, adding:
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
All tickets will be refunded. There are 17 concert dates affected, which were set to take place this year and next year with guests Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, and Sting. See the full list (below):
Back in March, Billy also postponed his tour for four months to deal with an unspecified medical issue that he was expecting to make a full recovery from following physical therapy and surgery. The premiere of his HBO doc Billy Joel: And So It Goes is set to take place next month at the Tribeca Festival, but it is unclear if he will attend.
Sounds like a scary situation. We’re wishing him well!
