Nonprofit health system UCHealth (Aurora, Colo.) broke ground on a $280 million expansion project at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colo.
The project will add a five-story tower on the north side of the hospital and a cancer center as well as expand emergency department (ED), imaging, and cardiac spaces.
Specifically, the patient tower will house surgical intensive care, progressive care, and trauma surgical units and a radiation oncology department with a linear accelerator.
The new cancer center will feature a new gynecological oncology clinic, medical oncology clinic, and infusion center.
The ED will expand to include 22 new patient care rooms and a new entrance.
Additionally, a new cardiac catheterization lab, structural heart lab, and vascular lab will be added to the south side of the hospital. Expanded imaging services will include additional CT, ultrasound, and MRI services as well as an interventional radiology suite on the east side of the hospital.
Parking will also be expanded for patients and staff.
The project team includes The S/L/A/M Collaborative (architect; Denver), Gallun Snow (interior designer; Denver), Haselden Construction (general contractor; Centennial, Colo.), BHA Design Inc. (landscape architect; Fort Collins, Colo.), RMH Group (MEP; Lakewood, Colo.), Olsson (civil engineer; Lincoln, Neb.), and S.A. Miro (structural engineer; Denver).
The cancer center is expected to begin seeing patients in 2024, and the new tower is expected to open in 2026.
